here fishy fishy

Mike’s been at it again, sneaking away from work to do some fishing. He’s come home 2 days in a row with these monster salmon. He’s so proud of accomplishments. These fish are going to get smoked. Can’t wait to try it.

Yesterday’s fish.

Today’s catch was a female.

How did we know, you ask? Take a look for yourself.

Enough eggs to fill up a bowl. Just call her fertile Myrtle.

Huge fish means huge filets.

In other news my mom came for a visit this week. She’s in the process of relocating to Chicago, so she did some searching for new digs. The perfect place was found, and she’ll be moving into her new place in the next couple of weeks. The girls are super excited about having their Grandma so close and getting the chance to visit with her more often.

So what do you do with salmon eggs?

Bait for salmon. Yes, they eat their own young.

    caviar??

    Sick!

And how then do they not eat themselves into extinction?

    LeShel-
Salmon eggs are actually used in sushi. I’ve eaten, and they are kind of yum. I tried an egg today though, and it didn’t taste the way I remembered it.

I don’t think the actual mother or father of those eggs eat them; it’s the competing (wanton) male. Killing the babies from other males is quite common in the animal kingdom. I witnessed a male hamster eating the heads off baby hamsters (in 9th biology class). I know it’s common for lions to kill babies of other males as well. So sad!

Pretty pictures!!! It isn’t often you go to a family website to see blood and guts. Those things don’t bother me; I rather enjoyed it. Cute kids!! Violet seems to be filling out and looking more like a “baby” rather than a “newborn.” So cute!!

I can’t believe those fish! I was hoping you were going to have a city wide salmon cook off with all that fish. Where is Jared’s comment? I thought he’d be in here drooling all over that fish. Those are the most brag worthy fish I have ever seen, and two days in a row…CRAZY!

Are you guys up? I have been waiting til 9:00 to call. I don’t want to wake people on a day off but your time is up. Ring, Ring!

Where were those fish last year when I was there?
