I don't know if I told you this but I started home schooling Caroline in 2008. We LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!!!!!! We joined a home school group and we go and hang out with them twice a week. Caroline doesn't miss public school at all and is learning so much. One other perk is that we can pick up and go out of town whenever we want on our field trips. I say GO FOR IT!!! I think you will really like it once you get started.

Thanks everyone, for all the comments and helpful resources. Erin, I know how you feel and am getting closer each day. Thanks for thinking of our family in your prayers.

Katelin, good luck with getting John started up at school. I think the first couple of years are fine in the public school system, depending on where you live. I'm sure Lakeville has a great school district. We're going to wait until at least SD to make any decisions. I want to see how their school districts rate first.

I'm in the middle of trying to figure out school options for John around here. There's a charter school we're looking into, and I know what you're saying about home schooling. I'll be interested to see what you decide...good luck!

You already know I'm rooting for your family to join the homeschooling club :-) It's really a lot of fun. There are challenging days, don't get me wrong, but it's so worth it. I felt the same when Cole was at school, learning so chopped up. It was hard to walk away from the "norm" but I'm so glad we did. After pulling him out we have been able to cover so much in the last few years in far less time. Vacations when you want, more free time for the girls to explore their interests outside of the books, more time as a family - we have found homeschooling to be producing well-rounded individuals. The best part is that Annie (& Mimi) can finish all their work in a few hours (it takes Nikki about 3 hours for Grade 1 and Cole 4 hours for grade 4) each morning and then the girls can just be kids - which is really so important for them, everyone needs downtime. You would be so great homeschooling! Best of luck to you in your decision making - we'll be praying for you :-)
